While the app is in Navigation Mode, if I switch to another app and then back to Kurviger, all cloud data becomes unavailable.
Example 1:
Open Kurviger app
Open the top left Kurviger menu and select “My Routes”
The folders of saved routes are displayed
Select a folder and select a route
Load the route and enter Navigation Mode
Everything is working fine
If I now flick over to any other app, even momentarily, and then return to Kurviger.
Example 2:
Open the top left Kurviger menu and select “My Routes”
The folders now don’t load
The “My Routes” page is shown (search, menu, sort and spinner), but no folders or routes
The list of cloud “Favourites” fails to load in the same way
Cloud data becomes unavailable through all other interfaces, such as selecting Overlays
Interestingly this error only happens if the app loses focus while in Navigation Mode. If in Planning Mode you can switch apps without problem.
Also the error is resolved if the Kurviger app is manually closed (i.e. the task is killed) and then reopened. Cloud data now becomes available again.
For my setup this bug is quite troublesome. I couldn’t find any other topics or solutions for this.
I can confirm this behaviour. I had this once already, but I could not reproduce it, so I attributed it to a slow internet, temporary problems with cloud or whatever…
With your description I can reproduce the error.
Yep exactly the same. I only get the “Recorded ride” folder if I fuss about pressing the search bar, sort button, etc. otherwise it’s completely blank for me.
ADDITIONAL:
Something strange is that if I turn off Wifi and Mobile(cell) Data, the bug partly goes away. Now the folders will load, the list of Routes and Favourites will load, but not the routes or favourites themselves!
In fact with all data turned off I can never get the cloud Routes and Favourites to load. Does this mean there is NO LOCAL COPY of Routes or Favourites?? Because that would be insane for a navigation app where you are likely to be off-grid when you need them.
This is a far more serious issue than the bug. Local copies of cloud data is 100% essential.
Thanks for reaching out. That sounds odd. Unfortunately, I can’t reproduce the issue. What device are you using, and does this error occur consistently for you?
Yes, currently you need an active internet connection to use the Kurviger Cloud. Here is a guide for how to use Kurviger offline. You can also access your recently loaded routes in the Route History of your device - this way you can load routes, even when offline.
Yes the bug is 98% consistent and repeatable for me. Note 10+ running Android 12.
Kurviger absolutely needs to keep a local copy of Routes & Favourites. They are typically only a few Kilobytes each and the local copies can be updated when there is a data connection. It would also fix bugs like this because the data would still be available. Just time-out and go local.
It’s good that there are other ways of importing and recalling historical routes, but Kurviger feels built around the cloud data. Possibly even have a “download My Routes” option the same way it is done for map data.
I also checked. Might it be dependant on the data? For example the amount of data of overlays and a synchronisation is restarted? But the folders are always shown, with much data it “feels” slower, with low data faster.
If you’re asking whether it might be the amount of data and the speed of the connection, unfortunately not.
Before triggering the bug, the cloud folders load almost instantly.
After triggering the bug, the cloud folders don’t ever load (even on fast WiFi).
And after triggering the bug, the folders only load again if the app is manually killed or if phone WiFi&Data is turned off (presumably loading a local copy of the folders, but not their contents).
