Feature Request: High Contrast Turn Arrows

It was kind of to be expected, three days of testing with and without Rotation Control Pro (and meanwhile 3.5.10), and the directional arrow didn’t change colour even once.
I’ll keep at it…

So, after a few more hundred kilometers… the aforementioned inversion effect occurred several times again, but so far I have been unable to establish a causal link with any actions.

  1. occurred regardless of Rotation Control Pro active or not
  2. the operating system “erratically” sets the status bar to black or white in Nav mode (compared to other apps, presumably depending on the map background at startup)
  3. the effect did not occur without an already white(!) status bar.
  4. at some point the display of the current speed<limit turns white (on a still pale gray background), with the next(?) change of the turn symbol this also turns white.
  5. the turn distance display remained black
  6. pause and resume navigation (the tiles are also inverted!) “resets” the display reliably - until it starts all over again.

Ideas from “Development”?

We currently use the native way of Android for styling. If Android switches to the wrong color, we show that color.

We are currently working on some fundamental changes of our UI. Without wanting to promise something, but it could be that this issue is resolved as part of a bigger change.

Other than that, it is really hard if a problem only occurs on a few devices and only after a longer time using the app. So if you rework does not fix the issue, we need to do further investigation here, but can only speculate.

Just to understand this correctly. First the status bar is turning white. Then the Kurviger app starts to turn white? This would support my theory that the native part of Android somehow does not agree with our lightmode/darkmode decision and is overruling our app (or maybe a different app is overruling our app?)

So, it could be some other app, are you using a launcher (e.g. Nova Launcher) or some other theming app?

Or are you maybe using some routine app, that switches your phone from dark to night? Like have a dark mode, when at work, and a light mode, when doing sports?

I’m not sure what Rotation Control Pro is. Is that a feature of Android? Or is it a standalone app?

Anyway regarding the status bar turning white, I’ve noticed that Kurviger or “Kirby” as I like to call it :face_savoring_food:, seems to copy what the color of your status bar is on your home screen.

For example, if you are using a dark wallpaper for your home screen (which is where you see all the icons you use most often on your phone), Android will make the status bar icons white and Kirby will copy that. That is, when you are in Kirby, you will also see a white status bar.

On the other hand, if you use a light colored wallpaper for your home screen, Android will make the status bar black and Kirby will copy that and also show a black status bar.

The one thing I didn’t test, is to use a white or light colored wallpaper and still have my device set in PERMANENT dark mode. It would be interesting to then see if Kirby or Kurviger will turn the arrows White at some point during navigation or whether they will remain black the entire time.

It is a standalone app to override rotation on your phone.

Nova Launcher is also an additional app, works as app launcher with hundred’s options to customize your phone appearance. There might be others, or you have possibly other built-in stuff from your manufacturer.

Something like this. Good idea.

Strange indeed. Two days everything normal, today once again a white status bar, but this time without Kurviger using the “white” for the icons :person_shrugging:

At least that seems to be a necessary prerequisite.

Nope, nothing like that. I’ll try a light coloured wallpaper next, as @CJusa suggested and hope for the abovementioned update :+1:

Update: Two weeks and a few thousand kilometers later - a few times the color reversal, but still no pattern, not provokable and also not reproducible.

Apart from that and a few other little things - once again 6000km reeled off with Kurviger, roughly pre-planned, finely tuned in the evening and modified during the day - Kurviger remains the ideal navigation app for me!

By the way I’ve been running the Kurviger navigation simulator on some routes that I created and I’m getting that strange white arrow against a light gray background occurring in that as well.

Very strange!

We will be providing an update in the coming weeks (the one I promised further up in the tread is getting ready), so this might fix the issue hopefully.
