The leaves are falling, winter is near, less motorcycling, more time left for new stuff. So I thought could be a good idea to make a short introduction for OSM-starters for the apps StreetComplete and SCEE. StreetComplete is a really great tool for quick contributions, which everybody can use with nearly zero knowledge. SCEE is based on StreetComplete, and has very advanced features, what requires some more experience. Please only map what you see and not what you guess. Do not use data from any other services, like Google, it is not allowed by Google or (most) other providers. One quest cannot be disabled, this is fine. ![grafik](https://forum.kurviger.com/uploads/default/original/3X/2/d/2d487a037defd392651871a3d1180337f521555d.png) **Another** - from my point - very **important setting** : Disable uploading your contributions immediately. This means you collect and enter your data, then at some point you press a button to upload the changes. This way you are able to undo your entries before uploading. In case there are stripes on the area, latest data is not yet downloaded from OSM. The list can be scrolled. With StreetComplete you can split a road into segments. The properties of the segments are copied. Each segment can - or better must - now be maintained separately with different properties. For example this road would have grass and pebble stone. The spli-position is marked with a cross. We have done 4 changes. Open your browser and log in into [openstreetmap](https://www.openstreetmap.org), check your latest changes. We see here the splitted road with surface = grass. ![grafik](https://forum.kurviger.com/uploads/default/original/3X/3/4/34fa6b26f7f072e345b9e2067b3882f4e2db0804.png) * * * **Note:** I have reverted the changes for this demo already. * * * **Edit in Webbrowser / ID-Editor** Here you can start edit the map with the ID-Editor (just as a hint, there is lot of documentation about the ID-Editor). ![grafik](https://forum.kurviger.com/uploads/default/original/3X/d/0/d00787e84c1c57c33a2e57629669ca49921d05c1.png) * * * **App SCEE - StreetComplete Extended Editor** SCEE is a partner project of StreetComplete and the developers are involved in both projects. I would recommend to use SCEE, when you have at least some experience, read some docs and want to contribute regularily. SCEE is not available on Google Play Store (at least I do not find it), probably they do not want that everybody uses it without experience. * * * Install the app F-Droid. **F-Droid is an app store** like the play store. It concentrates on free software. When your phone warns you, that this app store might not be trustworthy, confirm that it is trustworthy. I use apps from F-Droid as long as I have a phone and never experienced or heard any negative about it, and never had issues with the apps installed from F-Droid. At the end it is your decision. > **[F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository](https://f-droid.org/)** > > F-Droid is an installable catalogue of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) applications for the Android platform. The client makes it easy to browse, install, and keep track of updates on your device. * * * Search for **SCEE**. This means also you can delete entries. Please be careful. In the lower area, the app proposes addtional properties. Thanks @Toffel for the detailed introduction. I have already installed the **StreetComplete** app and completed a couple of quests before I finished the setup according to your recommendations. For me the quests were helpful to immediately spot where things are missing, so I will experiment in next days to see what is the best setting for me. ---

Thanks! Just a note. Zoom behaviour in overlays (colors e.g. of streets vanishes very early) is improved in version 60-Beta of StreetComplete. 😉 ---

Apart from adding missing road surface and speed limits - what would be other features that would be directly beneficial to Kurviger users? Is there a list of attributes used bu Kurviger so maybe I could make my settings to show all of these, if they are not set or questionable? ---

As there are many great apps out there which are based on OSM, or which would not exist without OSM, every contribution should help somehow. I concentrate on my home area and maintain stuff I have fun with and it feels good, that the website of my village uses OSM instead of GMaps. 😁
