Good day, I am currently planning my route to Mandello del Lario (Moto Guzzi factory) for August using the Kurviger app. I am regularly encountering a message in the app saying “this road is closed by a retractable barrier”. Does anyone have experience with this, and is it permitted to open it? It appears to be a ski slope; will this message still be in effect in August? Does Kurviger adapt to these kinds of active events? I look forward to hearing from you. P.S.: I had to do the route (avoid highways) from the Netherlands in stages in Kurviger because it kept freezing.
If this is a regular road, then these gate are typically open, and only closed under certain conditions (like snow, flooding, etc. - depends on the area). If it’s a ski slope it’s probably closed when people are skiing. I don’t think people will be skiing in August in most places, so you should be fine I guess 
Often it helps to place 1-2 Waypoints along the way, this makes it a lot faster to calculate the route. Just add a waypoint every 500km and you should be good usually. You might want these anyway to plan hotels, fuel stops etc.
