Recalculate navigation - what waypoint

Hi,

I usually use follow mode with recalculation set to manual. I find it difficult to interact with a phone while on the bike and often I’m leading a ride so trying to get back on path is more important that trying to diagnose and work out what the app is doing. I wonder then if there’s more documentation about the way waypoints and shaping points work. I like the way it works now that I can just ignore waypoints and follow the route and not interact with the phone but wonder if kurviger is marking that I’ve been to waypoints. If I did come unstuck and had to recalculate then what would it do? I’m used to the way google maps needs you to get within some distance of a waypoint otherwise it just keeps trying to navigate to it. Is kurviger the same? If I’m a number of waypoints into a ride and recalculate then what waypoint would it try to navigate to?

I saw there was a previous post that talked somewhat of this but not much detail on what it means to be at a waypoint.

Regards

You’ll find lots of answers in Kurviger’s knowledge base:

or in English

Kurviger uses 2 types of waypoints:

  • via point (blue mandatory). Use for places you want to visit.
  • shaping point (black may be skipped). Use to change the route to your wishes.
Similar to drag and drop in Google Maps.

Kurviger should behave quite the same. The waypoint must not visited exactly.

SP - Shaping Point (black) - a SP should be skipped automatically, when it is behind you

VP - Viapoint (blue) - As it is a point you want to visit, Kurviger tries the best to guide you to this point.

To my experience a point is reached, especially waypoints, when your position is about 300 meters, less or more.

Proposal: As it is all theory, try to create a simple test route like this. Switch on recalculation(!) and drive just forward, and check what happens.

First part with black SP, one is set at about 1 km away from the route, one quite near.

Second with blue VP. One far away, one near.

The automatic recalculation shows you what new route would be calculated, when you press the recalculation button yourselve from your current position. To verify drive again with no recalculation; stop at some point and press button for recalculation.

Thanks everyone for the pointers. Some reading of the documentation related to the subject cleared some of the confusion up. I’ll also try teh experiments but probably in a car - that will be easier than on the bike.
