Regarding the planning I really have no comments what so ever. Kurviger keeps surprising me with brilliant routes. Compliments for that.
The only thing I can think of there is the export of routes/tracks. It would be great if one can export a complete folder as one gpx
The suggestions below are all related to Navigation.
I’m currently traveling through Tuscany and, while using Kurviger for navigation (Android Auto) along the way, ran into a number of usability issues I’d like to share as feedback/feature requests.
Navigation & offline use (phone)
Problem: a planned route stored in the cloud repository is not available locally on the phone, so it can’t be loaded without an internet connection (maps are already fine offline, provided they’re downloaded beforehand) Wish: add a feature/setting to select which folders or routes from the cloud repository should be synced locally to the device, so they’re available offline
Map display & icons (Android Auto)
Problem: icons on the map (fuel, lodging, etc.) are too small to see clearly on the Android Auto screen
Problem: when you select specific POI categories to show, they aren’t displayed larger/more prominently than the rest on the Android Auto map Wish: show selected categories larger
Problem: there are many unnecessary icons on the map (e.g. all property gates/fences), cluttering the Android Auto view Wish: better filtering of irrelevant icons
Trip info (Android Auto)
Problem: on the phone, both the next via point and the final destination are shown, but on Android Auto you only see the next via point — so you don’t know the total remaining trip duration Wish: also show the final destination (and total trip duration) on Android Auto, matching the phone view
Controls & settings persistence (Android Auto)
Problem: on Android Auto, the app doesn’t remember the last action for buttons like Settings/Zoom, so every time you zoom you have to go through the whole menu again (6 clicks)
Posted these but they are covered in the settings menu
Problem: the mute/sound-off option has been moved into the settings menu (5 clicks) on Android Auto, even though it’s a frequently used action Wish: move it back to the map screen
Problem: the mute/sound-off setting is not persistent — every time you restart a journey, you need to switch off the sound again Wish: make the choice persistent
Problem: “Auto recalculate” doesn’t persist on Android Auto — even after manually turning it off on the phone, it’s on again as soon as you start Android Auto
The idea here is to set your prefered (and persistent) setting in the Settings menu (same for the map orientation). The settings you make during navigation are intended as temporary and last until you stop the navigation. Does it make sense? For me - no, but I am not bothered, as I do not change my mind about them very often (they are mostly OFF). This “feature” apparently creates a bit of confusion among users. I would assume that less users would complain if the settings remain permanent (you have to switch off what you switched on yourself and vice-versa) than if it automatically resets (you select what you want and then it resets, then you have to figure out that you have to go to completely other place in settings and change it there to keep it permanent - absolutely non-intuitive for new users).
I wish the “Skip” on the main screen. I do not use sound on/off at all during navigation. So I guess some kind of configurable button could be a compromise.
Something like that is already on our list to consider for the future
Could you show an example screenshot of what you mean please? I do not have the feeling that it looks cluttered at the moment. It may depend on the region too?
I probably forgot about that when starting with AA.
Maybe the confusion is that in AA you set the Voice functions within the menu settings as well. My interpretation was that, once set there it needed to be presistant. Bit I can live with the default setting in the phone. That’s fine
Cluttering was not the right word. What I wanted to say is that there are a lot of tiny icons. And they are difficult to distinguish. Not if the device is in front of your nose on the couch, but during a ride when the AA device is an armlength away.
But let me show you what I mean.
In the screenshot a tiny segment of a route.
You see three gates and one restaurant. Here on the screenshot and holding the phone in front of my nose the icons are recognizable. But when on the AA screen an arm length away I can only see there ar icons, hardly what they are.
So it would be great if next to selecting what poi’s you want to see on the map the items you select, like restaurants, hotels and fuel stations would be shown twice as big as now.. So they are well recognizable during the ride.
I only referred to the gates as an example. If you can’t filter them out, fine with me but the important poi’s need to better visible.
12 gates in this small section. Sometimes I’m driving sections in Nl and there is a farmers gate every 10mtr or so. I gues.the amature osm editors are very busy here
Bit again it is not so much about the gates. It is about not being able to see selected poi’s properly.
It does depend on the region.
At some point we all end up in urban areas, where there are lot of icons and it gets really difficult to distinquish the important ones from completely irrelevant. As far as I am concerned, you can drop the rubbish bins and children playgrounds completely and make motorcycle parking and petrol stations more prominent (i.e., bigger).
I think we could really remove some POI categories from the map during active navigation. And I also see that it would be beneficial to optimize the visual display of relevant POIs
Hello All, I’ve been using Kurviger for 2 months and spent over 5k with it and I am so happy with the feature it provdes. Except some little things. I am using the app with Innovv N2 on a BMW S1000XR '19 (gen1).
settings: every single time I restart my bike I have to set my preferred settings, like ‘no re-route automatically’, ‘mute’ and so on. Is there any way to store them?
navigation: the exit number inside the roundabout sign is super-super small. Sometimes I even have to lean forward and read the number from the screen. I mean the number that appears inside the arrow, like 1,2,3 and so. This is so annyoing and sometimes I missed my exit of course due to the unreadable number.
That’s it quickly.
However if the google maps overlay style could be integrated somehow that would be greatly appreciated. Especially on the night look versions of the overlays. They are horrible. The best look award still goes to google maps, however I do not use that anymore.
I wish I could help the developers a bit. Cheers guys!
If you change these preferences directly in the app settings menu (Kurviger Icon → Settings) rather than in the navigation menu, the setting will remain in effect. Maybe that’s a little misleading.
To your second point:
I understand that you think the number is small. The question is how to display it more effectively, because if you simply want to make the number larger, the icon and the box need to be larger as well.
That said, it’s also only meant to provide additional guidance. The exit is already indicated visually and announced audibly.
@Miki1 does not “think it is small”, the exit numbers are small. Half the size of the next smallest thing which ist the altitude (which is also challenging to read). TBH, they are so small, that I did not realize there is a number there until someone complained about how small they are and later read in release notes.
That would not be a problem since the box width will not grow and the yellow rectangle is irrelevant for the navigation anyway.
But there is another possibility - make a better icon. The arrowhead is huge. A bit smaller arrow, a bit larger circle and a bit thinner line - a bigger number will fit.
True. A glance at the map is providing much better orientation than this number.
But what is better? I don’t think your suggestion is the perfect solution either because with this version, the arrow is less prominent, so it becomes a question of what should be more visible: the arrow or the number.
For me, the arrow is more important. Map data isn’t always 100% reliable, and especially at roundabouts, the exit count can vary depending on how additional roads are mapped.
Especially at roundabouts with more than four exits, the number quickly becomes a bit of a headache, because in the hustle and bustle of traffic you sometimes can’t quite make out the map showing the route straight away. I’ve swore a few times over that.
Let me start to say is am a enthousiastic user of Kurviger planning tool. Every time again in am impressed with the routes the tool provides..
Together with a couple of other smart programmers kurviger took over the planning from Garmin Basecamp and Mapsource. And you ar way ahead now. I am impressed
But…
Now kurviger is jumping into the navigation tooling. As a 15+ years navigation user I can say that I have some experience. I drove at least 150k kilometers using all sorts of tools, devices etc.
Now with availability of AA and car Play devices this is my next step.
Preferably in would like to use kurviger for that as well. Many things work just fine.Bit I still keep falling back on my Garmin XT, importing your tracks because Kurviger simply misses things.
Why??.. Even though my AA device has a 7" screen kurviger lacks visibility and accessibility of, let’s call it, secondary info.
You have added gas stations as kurviger poi, but they are almost invisible to me But you can select them and add them to the route as you go. So that is the required functionality, but visibility is almost null.
Other important categories like hotels, restaurants are only available as icon from the osm source, also almost invisible due to the microscopic icon size and not accessable as data at al.
If the turn-by-turn instruction always announces which exit to take, than this is likely the most important information.
The second most important information is the rough location of the exit - do I exit at 90°, 180°, 270° or somewhere in-between. That is why the partial circle should be well visible. This information is helpful to prepare the turn, but sometimes not sufficient.
The Arrowhead itself is not carying a redundant information - it is always at the other end of the line that always begins at the bottom of the icon. Therefore it can be much smaller than what Kurviger is currently using. Even if you leave it out completely, most users would likely intuitively understand where the line begins and where it ends.
Just imagine there is no map and no audio - you will get the idea which information needs to be conveyed.
