Starting with a small route everything is fine, WP1 has been added by tapping on mountain pass icon “Col de Babaou”
To get start and destination on road I tap “Snap waypoints on road”.
Unintended result: WP1, which was on paved road (D41) before, snaps to unpaved road, which causes warning “WP1 is located close to crossing” and shows an unpaved segment in the route.
My opinion: If a waypoint is located on an high level road before, “Snap waypoints to road” should not snap it to a lower level road.
Well, you’ve certainly come across a very unusual case there! It has practically no effect on navigation.
But you’re right. Although point 1 marks a waypoint that was added as an intermediate destination by tapping the relevant icon on the map!
This position should not be altered by ALT-s (“Snap waypoints on road”).
Via or shaping points at intersections cause these extremely brief track glitches, resulting in an annoying false turn instruction followed immediately by a corrective U-turn instruction. This also may happen here because the engine’s routing profile apparently without any (small) extra penalty for routing onto minor roads, allows you to use these side roads. So only a misplaced via (shaping) points tool can still automatically correct this. If the routing engine does not offer such a tool, your only option is to place the shaping or via point a little further away in the direction you want to go (drive).
