Adding a Waypoint and selecting its type: Start, Shaping, Intermeadiate, End

Hi team,

Can consideration be given to the following;

If I left click on a point of interest I have the option of adding a Waypoint by then clicking on the “Add To Route” dropdown. (I know I can right click and choose the Waypoint type as well.)

I then have to choose either Start Shaping Intermeadiate End (seems a waste of clicks as there is no other option).

Can the Start Shaping Intermeadiate End icons (we all know them - but also use mouse hover text) be displayed in the free space between Add to Route and the Favourite - Share icon ?

If I got you right you want 4 interactive buttons (Start, Shaping, Intermediate, End) between the ‘Add to route’ and ‘Favourites’ button? Like this:

If so, I would say there is no more need to have the ‘Add to route’ button. Let’s wait for some more feedback on your proposal.

I fully understand this wish, but I see this as a possible improvement for power users. Having only the icons, it does not explain anything for a new or an average user.

From my experience, when recommending Kurviger, a lot of questions are coming after they made their first route. Most of them do not even recognize the star as a button to add a favorite. One friend even has chosen another software (less powerful, less functions) as it was more self explanatory for her. I think none of them will become a power user.

With this experience, I would rather go the other way to simplify stuff by always adding a text label to be self-explanatory, even if it means, I have additional clicks or I have to scroll a little bit more.

Edit
Or as compromise it could be like in the app, when adding a waypoint; displaying each function as an Icon with text label. I would also prefer to dissolve the marked additional functions in favour of icons.

Thanks, very true is the need to cater for the new or casual users and aim for simplicity.

In your edited response above that layout would work, but we could go further.

My suggestion stemmed from the fact that when adding a waypoint the left and right clicks do essentially the same thing but in a different manner. I cannot see the intended difference in function - is there?

If we click on a point on the map that is “empty” - it is not already on the route - can Kurviger open the Waypoint dialogue screen and pop open the Start - Intermediate - Shaping - End - What’s Here - Open Google Maps etc window - like it does on iPhone/iPad?

Side note: the UI on smart devices could also be exactly the same as well (POI and new waypoint are slightly different as one seems to cater for an image at some stage)

Whether it be a Point Of Interest, Favourite or a lonely address out on the roads is there a simplification case to make the actions the same that would also speed up adding waypoints.

Of relevance for me is the fact that I name every Waypoint (I raised another note suggestion an automatic naming of Waypoints from the known location data) otherwise on long country drives on the same road I end up with a Route List like this (I send these to my non device using friends so names are important - especially when they get in front of me )

Thanks

Thanks for bringing this up.

Yes exactly. We actually used to have the buttons 4 buttons there instead of the add to route some time ago.

We changed that to “Add to route” to make clear what will happen if you click the button.

If there is just a button labeled start, it is not clear what this button would do.

Does it add the point as start? Does it replace the start? Will only the start waypoint open?

If we make the buttons for POIs that large, we loose too much display area. For POIs the content of the POI is the first thing you need to know (like name, opening hours, or some other info). And only if that makes sense for you, you would want to add this point to the route.

With all that said, I do understand that in some cases it would be nice to avoid having to do another click to add a point to the route, but I am not sure if just adding more button to the POI view will actually help the view.

[EN] Maybe I’m leaving the topic on a side track here, but while recreating this post, a question came up again that I think has been asked before.
After right-clicking on a POI icon, e.g. a camera or binoculars, the following menu appears:

But when I right-click on an empty space, the following appears

Why is it different? In the first case, I would also like to see the selection “Extend route to”

Thanks for bringing this up, yeah we have this on our todo list. We should make sure these are closer together.

The menus are different because you are actually doing something else, one is just clicking on the map, the other is clicking on the POI.

[EN] Please let’s always talk about right clicks when we mean that, it’s not unimportant. If I click on a POI on the map (left or right mouse button) to extend the route, this is not possible now because the function “Extend route to” is missing. If I click on “Destination”, the previous destination is replaced. So I have to right-click on an empty space next to the POI to be able to extend the route there.

Quick update, we just added this to the Kurviger website :+1:

Nice, thank you…

Is there a reason why you didn’t add the e.g. “Show on Google Maps” also for POIs with this update right away?

Are you asking me?

I (and Robin) was referring to the website (and there to the right-click menu on a POI)…

I was off-topic, sorry. I deleted the post.

We could, the issue is, we cannot be sure that you will find the actual POI on GMaps or OSM. For some this might work, but for many, including favorites, GPX overlays etc. we simply don’t know, we can open GMaps at the coordinates, but not for the POI.
