Display on phone and AA/CP device

Hi everyone

Kurviger has made great progress with CarPlay and Android Auto recently.

I use a Remote One Controller for zooming, but it only works when the display is on the phone. Since Kurviger doesn’t allow the display to be shown on the phone and the AA/CP device at the same time, the controller unfortunately doesn’t work.

Is there a reason why it was designed this way in Kurviger?

Yeah, we used to have the display on smartphone + AA. That had a significantly higher battery consumption and comparatively few advantages. The remote control thing would probably be one of the few advantages.

OK, thanks for the reply. Is there no way to program it so that you could choose that?

I’d be in favor of that too

We understand that the option could be useful for some users. However, since this is a rather specific use case (and brings the mentioned battery disadvantage with it), there are currently no plans to implement it.

I see it differently in the circle I move in. Almost all tour riders use a GPS navigation system, and more and more of them are switching to CP, AA, etc., because 7 or 8 inches simply offers better readability, and people prefer the system that can also be operated via remote control or a handlebar controller or similar.

Because touch works… sometimes with gloves, but never when you need it quickly.

For everyone who always charges their phone, power consumption is not an issue. That’s why the question is whether it wouldn’t be possible to program it so that you can choose whether the display should be shown on both devices or only on the CP/AA device. That way it could work for both.

It’s not that simple, as users have different use cases.

Where the phone is:

  • mounted on the handlebars
  • in a jacket or pants pocket
  • in a backpack, top case, or similar

How the phone is charged:

  • not at all
  • power bank
  • USB port on the motorcycle
  • wireless charger (e.g., QuadLock or SP-Connect)

Issues reported in various forums (not just here):

  • the phone completely discharges
  • the phone discharges despite being connected to power
  • the phone overheats (charging generates additional heat) and apps shut down
  • with the display turned on, the phone cannot be stowed in a pocket or backpack

Just as an overview of how multifaceted the problem is — it’s not just about whether the phone should be charged or not.

I’m actually a big fan of remote controls and would love to see a (better) solution on AA [note: Android Auto], but a permanently on phone display is not a good compromise.

I’m convinced that with a bit of programming acrobatics combined, a solution can be found and that this could become a unique selling point and selling argument for Kurviger (until the competition catches up).
On the other hand, remote controls unfortunately still aren’t very widespread, and the small development team often has to focus their resources on “mainstream features”.
