App freezes and crashes when starting navigation

Hi Alexander!

Please double check you have given Kurviger all permissions for notification and location. In case of doubt, uninstall, install and login again and confirm all requests for permission.

Please share your debug information. Open Kurviger - left upper Kurviger icon - Settings - scroll to the bottom - click on the field with the debug information to copy, then paste here.

Thanks!

Hello,

When I attempt to start navigation of a saved route, the navigation app on my Android phone crashes. The route appears to load properly and after I tap “start navigation” the view zooms into the start location then freezes.

All permissions are on. I even accepted all cookies.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Can you please share your debug string fron the Kurviger settings?

A few things you can try:

  • Does it work with a different short route?
  • Do you have a lot of overlays? Please try to hide them all and test if this works

OSM date stamp: 6/1/2025
Version 3.5.8
Device: motorola - moto e5 (XT1920DL) -
Android: 8.1.0 - Webview 134.0.6998.136
App-Version: 3.5.8 - 5205
Screen: 360 x 720 px - 2dppx

I have not tried any shorter routes. I just updated the app today and this is the first time I have tried this new version.

I did not intentionally add any overlays so I’d have to say no, I don’t have a lot of them.

I made a 20 mile easy test route and it froze and crashed also.

I did download the offline map for the sections along the route. When I start navigation I see a notification on my phone that says "Offline download Download in progess…

I have tried navigation with the internet turned on and with it off…same results

I downloaded app on my Samsung Android tablet and navigation app appears to be working correctly.

The Android version is 9. My phone is 8.1. Maybe this is the problem?? It would be fabulous if the app would work on 8.1!!

I must answer! The first one with a Motorola! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

This is normal, when you start navigation. Kurviger loads for navigation some map data along the route, but should be finished in a few seconds, max. a minute. See also settings - Automatic download offline map.

Your phone is not the newest, I just tried with my Moto Z1 with Android 8 and it works, so Version 8.1 should be fine.

Please check in Playstore fir latest webview. You 134.. on my Z1 it is version 138..

Let us start from scratch. Settings - Delete local data and Delete offline maps.
Maps are lost and local route history is lost. If you have something in route history, save, if needed.

Login again. Make a short route and start navigation. Does it work?

I do not know how big is your storage. Can you check this? Downloading a section for offline requires about 100MB. Using too much offline maps slows down the app. Perhaps also the disk is full ..

Download only, when you really expext to have no internet at all on your route. The necessary data for a corridor of about 5 to 10 miles is downloaded, when you start navigation.

Good luck!

hahaha Toffel! Yep, I am a loyal Motorala user!

I looked for the downloaded file on my phone and was not able to locate it. I intended to delete it but I have no idea where it is.

I currently have 1.3 GB free on the phone itself and 19.64 GB free on the SD card.

I will delete local data and offline maps, but I’m leaving first thing tomorrow morning so it will have to wait until I get return.

Thanks for the advice!

Party! :clinking_beer_mugs:

There is no file, all data is saved in the application data. Important is the webview. 1 GB free is not much, 10-20 areas downloaded and disk is full.

Take your time.

I did check and I haven’t found any crashes from a Motorola E5. Hard to say without any reproduction or something more to go on.

Some ideas you would maybe try is to change dark/light mode in the system. Enable / disable automatic orientation of the device. Turn your device and use the other orientation that you are using right now. But these are really just some weird ideas .
