Unfortunately not possible (though it works in Calimoto): Deliberately routing specific sections via the motorway.
If I set motorways to ‘avoid completely’ or even ‘avoid partially’ in the avoidance settings, I still cannot force the planner to switch onto the motorway between two shaping points (while ‘fast’ is available as an option, it still won’t use the motorway since motorways are set to be avoided in the ‘avoidance’ settings).
Apparently, modifying the route between two points is also based on the global settings/avoidances for the entire route.
That’s a shame, because it would be extremely useful to be able to permanently select motorways (highways) as an alternative for specific sections (between two points), even if I generally want to avoid them for the entire route.
Kurviger simply has a different philosophy. So, planning has to be done differently here.
Avoidance of unpaved roads only, and possibly very minor roads.
Curviness set to curviest — this means highways are hardly ever chosen and towns are bypassed. For the fast connection leg, simply choose the fastest route between two shaping points. The results are significantly better than the competition for good reason.
Er. Thanks. But that doesn’t really have much to do with my question / suggestion. You can also avoid highways in Kurviger. But between two points, you can only set it to „fast“, instead of also setting it to highways.
Even if I sound like a broken record: hands off avoiding fast roads and main roads. These are needed to bypass towns and for fast connecting stretches. Let go of the idea of banning anything. The curvy option avoids precisely what everyone wants.
It really should because forcing isn’t a thing, and (from my perspective) it isn’t necessary either. Do you have an example where something like that is needed?
For example, when bad weather rolls in and I simply don’t want to take any curves. I want to hop on the highway between two points and would be glad if the app could help me with that. Or I want to set that up right during planning to eat up miles, like when you’re crossing all of Germany as I am right now. Then I want to hit the autobahn for stretches, but often not.
Leave avoid highways turned off. If you plan for fast and twisty, twisty, or extra twisty, motorways and expressways are generally excluded from the algorithm’s route planning. If you want to reroute on the go due to bad weather, simply change the route option between points from, say, twisty to fastest.
Right, switch to the fastest route in lousy weather, and if there’s no motorway around, take the federal highway or expressway. Just play around with the curviness settings between the waypoints in my example. Just tap on the small icons.
Exactly. And then it doesn’t automatically route you onto a motorway (AB), but rather down a nice country lane right next to it. That’s exactly what I want to influence - AB
I’m not sure I understand your point. Do you perhaps have a sample route to reproduce the scenario? If you want to take the nice country road, fast and curvy should work. Worst case, a section might need to be adjusted with 1-2 shaping points, but Kurviger should handle the rest.
Totally agree with you, Michael. I don’t think that’s very well solved, and yeah, our competitor can do that… But maybe that’s still coming… and no – please, no comments about how one needs to approach planning differently… ;-)_
Well, the results aren’t bad with others. But the planning can’t be customized anywhere near as much. It’s all the more annoying that precisely this practical attitude is missing.
If I want to ride on the highway from Merano to Bolzano because of the weather, for example, and then take the twisty roads, I just enter it exactly like that.
First the route from Merano to Levico as “Fast”.
Then a waypoint near Bolzano and from there set to twisty.
If you see a few more nice curves, add another waypoint and you’re good to go.
And if you want to make changes on the go, you can’t do it section by section: it won’t route via the motorway if you strongly exclude major roads. But if you correct this while on the road (strongly avoid major roads), you change the entire remaining route ahead of you.
For example, I might spontaneously want to take the motorway for the next 30 km because of rain, but I had strongly reduced major roads for the entire route in the morning. Then it doesn’t work.
