The issue is probably that the file has no file extensions (e.g. .gpx).

Can you please describe a bit more in detail, what the issue is? Else it is hard to help, our clairvoyant abilities are yet not that far developped 
I assume @breed tried to import a file with wrong extension, so I moved the thread into this one.
Please check the extension of the imported file.
