I have Kurviger 3.5.10 on iOS with tourer+. I have downloaded all maps necessary for my track. If I lose my data connection, kurviger gives me an error message (lost data connection etc) that requires a user interaction by pushing an OK button.
This is DANGEROUS and should not happen while driving! If the App loses the data connection, it could indicate this with a notification using the iOS notification system that has banners that go away after 3 seconds. But obfuscating the screen with a message that only goes away if the user points a finger on the screen while driving should be a no-go.
I hope you will be able to fix that in version 3.5.11. Thanks in advance if you do.
This is NOT about re-calculating the route, this is happening while driving on the track.
I am not aware of any error messages from Kurviger that require you to press an OK button during navigation. Do you have a screenshot or more information?
Using flight mode doesn’t trigger the message. But I had it yesterday in the Vosges mountains. I stopped. Unfortunately, with the gloves, I hit the wrong button for the screen shot and the message vanished.
The messages says: “Lost connection to cellular data” and below in small “use wifi network instead”. And below that a blue Ok - Button. It does not go away until you touch the phone.
Really weird, I have never seen this message with Kurviger and I can verify that the message “lost connection” does not occur in any of our in app messages. Could it be that a different app triggers this popup?
@boldtrn this could be an iOS system message triggered by kurviger via the notification framework. In the sense: Kurviger requires network connection, which is known to iOS and iOS will trigger that message if cellular data is unavailable. Debugging that will be horrible. From the layout and colouring of the message, it is rather a system message. This could be given as a bug report to apple. But to do that I will need to provide a screenshot. And currently, the weather conditions are not met to get to a new attempt.
But I’m using Tourer+ to support the project. I have all offline maps installed. This could be used to tell the iOS notification system that network connections are not vital.
@Scotty57 Are you running IOS26 or an older version (which one?). I have not observed such message under IOS18 yet. I remember having other navigation apps sending turn instruction windows from the background, but they did not need a confirmation.
To be honest, I don’t think this is really a notification from Kurviger or even related to Kurviger. I have never seen this or heard complaints from other users.
A screenshot would still help to find out where this might come from.
You could experiment a bit more with this and maybe use all apps that you also use during riding (not sure if you use any other apps). Maybe instead of flight mode you could disable your network on your phone. It’s hard to help without having the phone at hand with something like this
I know it is difficult to debug. If I’m the only one having that issue, fine. The message is in a bubble with dark background and a white font. The ok button is blue. I have no other app running at that time. I get a similar system - message when turning off cellular data, but there it also offers settings. In this other overlay message, it just wants an ok. So it definitely looks like a system message. So this may be out of scope for the kurviger app. Note that I used linux phones for the past 15 years, so not very familiar with iOS.
I completely agree, having to interact with a pop-up notification while driving is unsafe. Ideally, the app should use non-intrusive banners or subtle notifications for data loss events, especially since offline maps are already downloaded. Hopefully, the developers take this feedback seriously and improve the user experience in upcoming versions. You might also consider submitting this directly as a feature request if you haven’t already. Stay safe!
I finally was able to take the screenshot with the OK button. Now iOS 26.2. The popup only goes away after one has tapped on OK. So even if the mobile network resumes, it keeps being in the middle of the screen covering everything.
That is NOT the point! I have Tourer+ and offline map data. I had cellular data enabled but on Low Data Mode which worked for everything so far. I’ve now put it on standard. But still, a navigation app should be aware of the environment in which it is operating and either not trigger those functions of the framework or suppress those popups. And yes, I know it is not easy. But here, it is safety critical or I wouldn’t complain at all.
The thing I could imagine is that I slightly quit the route (we were on a break) and it wants to recalculate. As kurviger is not able to calculate routes offline, it will call for data. And that triggers the message because I’m somewhere without coverage. Tricky problem indeed.
Thanks, this helps a lot to clarify what is happening.
As others have commented already, this is a notification from iOS which seems to be not related to Kurviger. I don’t think there is any option for us to even prevent this popup from showing.
I am pretty sure this is not related to low data mode, I used that for quite some time and never saw this notification.
Have you tried the possible solutions you find online for this issue, including restarting the phone, toggle airplane mode, etc.? Some posts suggest reinserting the sim card, there seems to be different options around, I can’t really recommend anything, since I have never seen this popup.
1/ I do not “complain”. I help with bug reports. And the issue is relevant IMHO.
2/ How would the iOS framework know in which context it operates? The application wants data and triggers a warning message. This is not iOS doing something on its own. So despite the fact that this is not a native message from kurviger, the kurviger app remains the controlling factor.
3/ I will show the issue to people from Apple and we’ll see what they say. But I’m 99% sure that they will say: This is controlled by the App, report it there.
4/ I also need to submit another bug report because at the moment I had this message, I also had the blitzer-app running in the background. But I already had that message without them running in the background. I will continue to monitor.
Absolutely and thank you very much for reporting issues!
This is not my understanding of how iOS works. We can ask for something on the internet, sure. And this will work or not, we do this in the same way as any app does that. Whatever iOS makes of it, we can’t control. Blitzer App (or any other app your have on your phone) will request something from the internet regularly.
If you only see this, when riding with your motorcycle, it could be that this issue only happens if you are in an area with bad reception, or maybe in an area with roaming or something like that which will trigger this message in iOS.
