I have the following problem / issue. I am driving on highway A15. The app shows I need to take an exit towards the A15 again (even the voice will say take the exit to A15). But in reality I need to take the exit towards the A50. This happens only on Highways. When in towns or local street the app indicates the right name of the next road I need to be on.
Here is a simular junction of two highways in Germany, where this does not happen. It actuall does not show at all to which highway you should turn, it just says “right”.
I guess it has something to do with how the exits are tagged in OSM. Maybe someone with better OSM knowledge can have a look?
is tagged with the ref=A15, probably this leads to Kurviger directive “to A15”.
I think removing the ref=A15 from motorway link might fix that issue in Kurviger - but that is the wrong way, because ref=A15 is correct from my point of view.
I do not know if it is correct - it goes beyond my humble knowledge of OSM.
What I observed on a couple of random junctions in Germany where ref and destination:ref are used on an exit, they both have the same value.
For example here:
I also had a look at junctions of A7-A70, A70-A71 and A9-A6. The value “ref” is often omitted on exit or is the same as destination:ref, but could not find the example where they are different as on the example A50 and A15 in Netherlands.
Anyway, in this case Kurviger should probably look at “destination:ref” and announce something like “take exit toward Axyz”
@rumbrummer and @t00thl355 thanks for looking into this. Reading your comments it seems indeed to do with OSM.
Very confusing to a driver though. Especially if you have auto-zoom on and therefore can’t really see which exit you need to have. Makes the app difficult to use when abroad.
Well, auto-zoom should enable you to see better rather than worse? Is it zooming too much on your device? Are you using Carplay? Maybe you could make a screenshot or a picture while simulating the short segment you posted above, to give the developers a better idea what it looks like on your setup.
I am still able to distinguish that it is the rightmost lane. Does it look much different on IOS? First version of the carplay used to zoom a bit too much, not sure if this has been fixed already.
I am a bit confused how the highways are modelled in Netherlands. On some sections, there are even two markings:
@boldtrn could someone from the team check how Kurviger is using “ref” and “destination:ref” tags on highway exits? In Netherlands they appear to be used differently (by OSM contributors) compared to Germany, which causes Kurviger to issue confusing instructions when taking an exit.
I have attached as on my iPhone. As you can hopefully see from google (earlier post) there are two exits. Since you have no indication of which exit to take and confusing that there is another right turn coming up. You wonder which one of the two you have to be on. Perhaps using 3D makes the view better. Will give that a try.
