I give the app a B+. The live navigation worked well and the voice commands kept me well-informed as to upcoming turns. But getting the route to display correctly and exporting the turnbook were problematic.
I’m sure that, with appropriate instructions, I could have resolved the route issues but the problems were not always present so either the app is glitchy or I kept making different mistakes. Both are possible. As an example, when selecting a shaping point, sometimes it would create a waypoint and sometimes it wouldn’t. Sometimes it would create a u-turn and sometimes it wouldn’t. Sometimes a waypoint would actually be what is measured on time and miles to go.
This last point was problematic because, when navigating, the time and distance only references the waypoint. Sometimes. Most of the time it referenced entire route, which is what I wanted. However, when loading the route, the entire route distance IS shown until the navigation is displayed. This was quite distracting. And, when approaching that waypoint, there was no direction given in terms of turns or roads.
Exporting the route book was never routine. Sometimes, after showing all of the turns, it wouldn’t allow an export. Sometimes it would not (even if the route was complete and calculated). Sometimes I’d have to go into the route, pick a turn and view it on the route before the Export button would display. Sometimes it would not.
Unrelated to these issues, when searching for hotels, either along the route or in a specific area, the app would not show all of the hotels and some of the displayed hotels were not really there. I had to use Google Maps for a more trustworthy list.
I ended up using Calimoto and then transferring the route to Kurviger to get the kind of roads I wanted. It took a little doing but in the end, I liked the Kurviger display better, which is why I transferred the route to begin with.
Otherwise, I found it very helpful to navigate back roads with lots of turns which allowed me to concentrate on riding and not the technology of the phone.
Thanks.
