How do votes work

How can I get an overview where my votes are? So many features to vote for, but only 5 votes… do I get them back automatically when a feature is implemented?

Juat enter “vote” in the search function and check hits…

Well, I get 50+ votes. I then tried used sorting “with most votes”, but it did not help me find where my 5 votes are. Then I would need to scroll all the way up to the beginning of each topic to see if I have voted there. My problem is - when I started using votes, I did not realize I had only five and placed them to whatever feature looked desirable to me. Now I would like to prioritize my needs and redistribute my votes, but find an easy way to locate them.

UPDATE: The question just answered itself spontaneously. If I tap on “Limit” buton, it offers “List your votes” option. That is what I was looking for.

I guess: NO …
Tap on LIMIT shows only “implemented features” in my case.

I think there might be an issue with the voting plugin. In theory it should release the votes, but it might be that it doesn’t, we will have a look at this.

I just double tested this and the release of votes worked as expected when moving the topic to implemented features.

It appears that this was an issue until 2022. So some votes might not have been reset. I have bumbed the number of available votes for the more active users here in the forum, so you should at least have some votes.

It seems that 10 of my votes are lost at implemented features, so I am at the limit.
How can I release them?

We can check if auto closing topics in the Implemented features category can help here as well. I think a closed topic should also release the votes.

Thanks for the help. I still see 10 “implemented fearures” topics when I check my votes, but looking at a voting thread I do not see the box “Limit” any more but a box “Vote” (German Version “Stimme”), so I think I can vote again.

I think I found an explanation on Discourse Website:

Once out of votes, users must wait for a topic to be closed, at which point their vote will be returned to them.

So I think closing topics of implemented feature is mandatory to release votes - but closing has disadvantages: If you want to add further comments to an implemented feature, you can not do it in the closed topic.

I just tested: I can withdraw my vote in open topics - perhaps it might be an option to change the handling of “implemented featutes”, so that votes can be withdrawn manually - but I have doubts if this would be a good solution …

No, it’s not  Moving topics with votes to non-voting category doesn't release votes - #13 by JammyDodger - Bug - Discourse Meta - this was a bug that existed in the voting plugin. But yeah, we should probably close all the old topics to release votes from long time members.

Thanks for the detailed information! Is there a batch mode or an option to select many topics and close them (for moderators, of course!) ?
I closed some old implemented features topics (due to my enhanced rights I can do that), each of them individually and manually - closing all implemented features topics from 2019 - 2021 (do not know the exact dates) would be a lot of annoying work
