Looking for Guidance on Route Optimisation for Stunning Motorcycle Adventures

Hello Everyone :hugs:,

I would appreciate some guidance on how to best arrange my routes for an especially picturesque and pleasurable experience as I am organising a summertime motorbike trip across the Alps. I’ve been visiting Kurviger for some time now and like how accommodating it is to motorbike riders. However, in order to get the best out of my trip, I’m hoping to obtain some advice from the more experienced riders here.

Travel Specifics:

  • Time Frame: two weeks
  • Beginning Point: Munich, Germany
  • Destination: A number of places in the Alps (France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria)
  • Riding Route Preferences: Winding roads, scenic routes, few highways, and charming rest stops.

Inquiries:

Route Recommendations:

  • Which Alps passes or routes are you confident you should ride because of their breathtaking scenery and enjoyment factor?
  • Are there any lesser-known or undiscovered roads that provide for fantastic riding experiences?

Kurviger Configurations:

  • Which particular Kurviger settings you usually use to minimise highway travel and maximise scenic routes?
  • Any advice on striking a balance between daily riding times that are manageable and winding roads?

Stops and Accommodations:

  • Suggestions for lodging that is biker-friendly along the route?
  • scenic spots or points of interest that merit a stop?

Time and Weather:

  • Generally speaking, how do you schedule your rides to minimise inclement weather, particularly in the hilly areas?
  • When is the ideal time of day to ride around the Alps to get unobstructed vistas and fewer traffic?

Overall Advice:

  • Are there any general tips for a first-time Alps rider?
  • Any typical mistakes to avoid or safety tips?

I want to make sure this vacation is as nice and unforgettable as possible because I’m incredibly enthusiastic about it. I’m eager to hear your recommendations and absorb knowledge from your experiences.

Thank you  in advance.

Hello Joyes,
welcome to Kurviger Forum. I will try to give you some answers to your questions.

I already did several trips to the alps, sometimes a large round with daily changing destinations, sometimes staying for a week or less at one point with round trips and sometimes a combination of both.

The pleasure stands and falls with the weather, if you stay for multiple days at one place, you may escape bad weather by selecting the scheduled direction.

Distance per day - I recommend 250-300 km, depending on your riding skills and endurance. If your focus lies on enjoying the panorama during breaks and taking photos, have a nice lunch and coffee breaks I would not exceed 300 km per day. If the ride is the goal you may plan more.

From panoramic perspective the Austrian and Switzerland alps are the most beautiful (imho). Recommended places:
region Toblach, Pragser Wildsee

Kühtai

Kaunergletscher (toll road, but definitely worth it)

Großglockner and Timmelsjoch are also must

As a preparation a curve training is a good idea but not mandatory.

When it come to focus on riding I suggest the french alps. Lac de serre poncon is a good place for a base camp, I did that last year with a friend for one week.

Here some sample routes which we really enjoyed

And some pictures as appetizers

and a little vid of the 3rd route

In general: never overestimate your mental and physical skills. Better do a smaller and intensive trip instead of trying to catch all at once.

Regarding your gear to take with you the link you provided is complete according to my experience. A specific ensurance in case of a bike breakdown or accident is also no bad idea.

I hope this gives you some inspiration, happy planning :grinning:
