Plz Help~ Planning an Alps tour from Korea

Hi. I’m a Korean rider planning an Alps tour from Korea. I’m flying out on September 17 next year, planning to ride from the 18th to the 25th, and fly back to Korea on the 26th. I’m thinking of renting a bike in Munich and doing a loop from Munich through some great spots in Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. I’ve never been to that area before, so I honestly have no idea how to build the route. I could really use help from the experts here.

I’m looking for help with:

  1. Info on motorcycle rentals
  2. A route that starts and ends in Munich from the 18th to the 25th
  3. Places to stay and eat along the way
  4. Other important things I should know for that time of year
  5. Any handy tips

Is there a rider brother out there who could help? It’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip for me—super excited but also pretty nervous. If any of you have ridden there a lot, I bet you already have solid routes. Would you be willing to kindly share them with a visiting rider?

Hello and welcome!

Tell us a little about yourself and your preferences.

What kind of spots do you want to see?
-Landscape
-Culture
-Cities (tourist attractions)
-Beautiful motorcycle roads with lots of curves
-As many mountain passes as possible

How good are your motorcycle riding skills?
What type of motorcycle do you want to rent?
Are you able to ride on very narrow roads with challenging hairpin turns?
How many kilometers do you want to ride per day?
How much time do you want to spend riding?
Do you want to include rest days in your itinerary?
Would you prefer to have fewer overnight stops and take day trips from there, or would you like to stay somewhere different every night?

Would you like pre-planned routes or POIs that you can then connect yourself (with lots of curves, of course)?

September is a great time to ride a motorcycle in the Alps. Normally, no passes are closed at this time of year.

@Kyungmok_lee Your plan reminds me of a 9-day tour I did a long time ago. If you leave out the rest day, it will fit into your schedule. I’ll attach the description—translated into English for you:

10Passes.pdf (342,6 KB)

And you may spend the last night in Munich on the Oktoberfest!

I would recommend this route to you.

I have no experience with motorcycle rentals.

I would use the Kurviger app with a cell phone, then the routing will work.

You have plenty of time. Take a look at the roads using Google Street View. Some of them are very narrow. And the 48 hairpin bends on the Stelvio Pass are not always easy to drive.

So much thanks.

It would be a super nice trip cause your special guides.

Two friends and I flew over from the US and rode a version of what you are planning - the Classic Alpine Tour with Beach’s Motorcycle Adventures (link below). They provide a motorcycle that you choose from their inventory. They provide a Garmin Navigator that has multiple routes between each pre-planned hotel, but they also let you plan and/or improvise your own routes. They do the organizing work; you do the riding fun.

You are welcome. For my Beach’s alpine tour, I chose a BMW R1250R for simplicity and had a great time. In the 1980s, I enjoyed visiting Korea three times during military deployments, but never with a motorcycle; maybe someday.
