Unrecognized road.kurviger (7.5 KB)
The road connecting the two points isn’t used by Kurviger, even if I set a via point, it takes me a different route. I’ve driven the road in question several times, so it’s passable. From what I understand, OpenStreet needs to be updated, but it’s beyond my capabilities.
OSM says that it is not accessible for motor vehicles, but I cannot see any restricting sign on Mapillary.
In fact, there’s no prohibition, It is a well-known route frequented by many off-road vehicles. With Google Maps, you can follow the route without any problems.
Who can correct that incorrect OSM report?
I can try to correct it. Is the road passable by a normal road car and motorcycle or just by offroad vehicles? It says that the track is paved with asphalt. I guess trucks and busses have no business up there.
That stretch of road is paved, but it’s part of a mixed paved/unpaved route, so I’d say it’s more suitable for off-road cars/motorcycles. I’ve often encountered “normal” cars, though, but it was clear they weren’t in their element.
I have changed the access and added some tags to indicate bad road.
@Rsandri58 Can you estimate the width of the road?
Here is the test route, let’s see what happens in 2-3 days:
I think it’s 2.5m wide.
I know of other roads in my area that are in the same condition. Can I point them out to you? Thanks in advance for your help.
Sure. Let’s first see how Kurviger reacts on the changes I made on this road.
The best way would be to send a direct link to the road on www.openstreetmap.org
There you can use this tool
to query features on the map and select the road. Once the desired road is selected, you can copy the URL from the browsers address bar. It is generally helpful to learn the basics of the OSM - maybe one day you decide to change some things yourself.
Alternatively you can make short route using beelines in Kurviger and the use “Share” function to create a short-link and post it here.
So, the test route (https://kurv.gr/ah3sX) is now able to use the road, but I have several concerns regarding the change where I would like to consult @boldtrn
- Is this very narrow road now properly tagged, so that the avoidance of narrow roads would be able to detect it correctly. It appears to be narrower and on worse condition than the Manghen pass that was passionately discussed just a couple of weeks ago.
- This is my first time to see the “ford” symbol on Kurviger (green arrow) - I guess due to my lack of experience. On this test section, there are three other “ford” nodes (red arrows) in OSM which are not shown in Kurviger. Why is this the case? I cannot recognize the difference in OSM.
Here in OSM:
I’d think so and I think it should have been picked up before as well?
Good question. I don’t have the answer right now, I would need to dig deeper, sorry ![]()
Before it was tagged as no access for motor vehicles - that is why the change was needed.
To me, tjey all look the same, but something is obviously different. Does any of the avoidances avoid fords?
It’s finally working fine, thanks to your efforts. There’s still a small section that’s off-limits to motor vehicles which prevents you from continuing on the right.; I’ve attached the file.

I’ve also followed your advice and started studying how to make the changes in OSM.
Do you want to try to change that one in OSM yourself as a small exercise?
Sure, I can try, but next week. I don’t have access to a PC right now, and I’ve seen that I can’t make the changes with my phone.
I had access to a PC and tried to edit the data for that stretch of road. If you can, check if I did it correctly.
Also, while I was at it, I tried updating the data for this road:
It’s made up of several segments and I had to edit them one by one; is there a way to apply the change to the entire affected path?
Looks good. Let’s see in 2-3 days how it works on Kurviger.
The second change also looks good, but this road is tagged as service road and Kurviger may be reluctant to use it. If it does not work immediately, you might try placing a shaping point on it. Also I do not know if access:unknown may cause problems in Kurviger. Hopefully not.
@t00thl355 Can you check out the last track? I edited it based on your comments..
Thanks in advance
To me it looks ok - should be routable by Kurviger in 2-3 days.
Hello
Was Planung a Tour thru France, found a Road D1532 that is On Kurviger that ends and have to return, on Google Maps the Road does not End wold be nice if Kurviger could change this.
Please post the link to the route where the problem occurs. Do you have any local knowledge about the spot, that would justify the change? Changes based on Google maps are not allowed in OSM.
