What in OSM makes my route differ?

Hello

Kurviger takes me off the obvious main street, and round a parking lot.

I have been in contact with OSM contributers to figure out if there is a bug in the map, but there seems to be nothing abvious problem with the map, and the OSM routing algorith does not have the problem. So what is it in the kurviger algorithm that differs from the OSM algorithm?

My test route shows the problem here:

Same route in OSM

Kurviger tries to get of the non public road. (red line)
You can see it here: https://kurv.gr/Hpg8B

I think that the tag “vehicle=destination” is making problems and is probably incorrect, but it has to be verified locally. This tag is set only on a short segment of the street that appears red in the route that @G-B provided. Kurviger tries to get off the road with this tag as soon as possible and find an alternative route over the parking lot.

Even when I use “fastes” route, it still goes away from the road, and round the parking lot. This can’t be true?

Yes vehicle=destination is what was discussed in the OSM forum. But then why does the OSM routing algorithm ignore this?

It is difficult to answer a question about the OSM Alghoritm, that I do not know or use.
I could speculate:

  • they just ignore this tag alltogether or
  • they are so smart to detect that your destination is nearby and ignore the tag because your route fulfills the criterion “destination”

Choosing “fastest” will not override potential conflicts with traffic regulations. If you want to enforce this route, you have to place a shaping point like @G-B has shown in his example.

If you are on-site, you could check the traffic signs and correct the OSM data. Something appers wrong there anyway, so either the whole street should be with this tag or nothing. Maybe some cheeky resident put this tag, to get rid of vehicles driving in front of his window.

If other tools ignore closed roads then that is there own game.
I like that kurviger calculating a lot.
I do not want to think much about is it allowed to drive there.
A Navigationsystem should route me in not known areas in a safe way withouit paying some fine!

Thank you, I agree with you both. Map looks a little fishy here. I will try remove the vehicle=destination tag if the guys in OSM agree (I am new to editing so I’m a little reluctant to go ahead and do it myself).

When a change is made, do you know approx, how long does it take to come through to Kurviger?

normal after about 2 days. (next good point in kuviger  )
