Apple CarPlay

I ride a lot with a group of other motorcyclists and we now use Garmin’s, but sharing routes via Garmin always leads to inexplicable differences in the route. We thought we had the solution with Kurviger via Carplay. But unfortunately, that doesn’t work (yet).

I hope the CarPlay will be available soon.

As for now, I do the planning in Kurviger and export to Scenic. Scenic is quite good, but lacks the web planning feature.

As soon as the Kurviger CarPlay is available, it will most probably be my goto app.

I know - the development needs time - but without CarPlay support the usage of Kurviger is very limited for me. I like the web interface of kurviger a lot. But I need one system that supports planing and routing via CarPlay. I don‘t want to switch between different apps. My nav device is a Carpuride and since Kurviger is not available I‘m considering to switch to MRA. Paying there for a lifetime licence and getting used to the MRA interface is a decision I would not change again if Kurviger finally supports CarPlay. Too much time goes into getting familiar with the UI of an app.
No release date for CarPlay is like no perspective staying with Kurviger for me.

Hi Detlef,
I’ve already tried gentle coercion, but unfortunately that doesn’t work.
The guys are working flat out on CP.
It’s best to wait as long as possible before making a decision. Besides, you can always make a new decision. We’re not talking about building a house or anything like that

There is a statement regarding the expected availability in this post:

Since then, there were several confirmation posts that CP is on the top of the list - I read it as “active work is ongoing”. Now you can argue if the season start is in March or April, but in general it is not in February and also not in June. So if this timeline cannot be met, I guess the team will communicate the rough expected delay, so everyone waiting on CP can make other arrangements.

I had a similar situation with Android Auto - there was no release date, I needed it in July, it came later… I was still able to navigate with Kurviger (without AA) and am still here. It was worth waiting, although for my main 2024 tour I had to improvize.

we will see - it has not only to be released with CP support - the implementation has to support the functions I need - CP isn‘t a simple mirror of the app… I like the UI of Kurviger much more then MRA, but after investing €200 into the MRA version… I don‘t think I will switch back.

And those would be…? Expressing your needs help the team to develop the right features (if possible, of course).

uhh - taff question
Spontaneously, I would consider the following functions to be important or essential:

  • Voice output via CP device (I don’t use this myself, but it seems important to me)
  • all interactive elements are accessible and functional (size, display)
  • the interface must fully comply with Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines for CarPlay apps
  • the app must display the current route, upcoming maneuvers and turn-by-turn directions in a clear and legible format
  • Navigation information (e.g. distance to next turn, estimated time of arrival) should be updated in real time and without noticeable delay (some apps have significant delays) The CarPlay app interface should load quickly and perform smoothly
  • If a user deviates from the suggested route, the app should automatically recalculate the route and display the updated route (as the app already does)
  • the app should display points of interest (POIs) or favorites along the route according to the CarPlay design guidelines
  • the interface should support both touch inputs (where appropriate) and voice commands via Siri (nice to have)
  • Essential actions (e.g., starting/stopping navigation, accessing stored routes) should be easily accessible
  • the app must maintain a reliable connection between the iPhone and the CarPlay display. It should gracefully handle temporary connectivity issues without crashing or freezing (another app Cal… shows major issues here)
  • wonder wheel support should be there if the interactive elements are build according to the implementation standards by Apple

Thanks for the effort and writing things down. Most of things you wish are “standard” (so I guess you won’t be disappointed). Compliance to Car Play Guidelines is a must, otherwise you don’t get an approval for CP.

I cannot speak for the development team, but if I judge by the current AA implementation, this might not be available immediately (it is available using the smartphone screen though). This is my strong wish too, but apparently some patience is required.

WonderWheel support on CP is strongly dependent on CP device you use. If the CP device supports it, then it will work “automatically” as the suport for rotary knob is standardized within the CP guidelines.

And everything at the bottom of your list fulfills MRA?

that was not the question - was it?

My expectation for the first version will be a working navigation that guides you along your route (including rerouting, voice, etc.). Especially for manual actions like POIs, changing the route etc. you might have to fall back to your smartphone.

In the long term, we might add more features like adding fuel stations during the navigation, but this is out of scope for the first version. If you look at the Android Auto version, this is roughly the scope we are looking for a first CarPlay version as well.

Hi Team,
The needs from my side:
Overall, the minimum to start would be fine.
The idea is to get rid of other apps and start to plan trips on computer then, from the cloud, use them on Carpuride (without the need of touching the phone)
What is really mandatory from Carpuride (or Chigee or …) is to be able to:

  • call trips from the cloud (the webapp works already)
  • Duplicate, rename them change them in case of changes during the roadtrip
  • Button to skip the next waypoint
  • Compass on the map
  • have an automatic restart after a break (I say that because it is one of the recurrent bug I have with Calimoto)
  • be able to use offline maps (last year I paid a fortune going out of EU)
  • auto zoom
  • change the route color (on Calimoto it’s a light pink that we can barely see sometimes)
The rest can come after. The most important is to be guided, even with no voice (we can just look at the screen for a while)
I just hope that I will not have to re-subscribe to Calimoto, too many bugs on my 11k kms EU trips last year.
As already said, I am ready to be a beta tester.
I tried BMW Nav.V and Nav.VI, Garmin Zumo, Chigee, Carpuride W502B, now I have Carpuride W619B. I tried Scenic, Sygic and Calimoto.
On my YT channel, I promised to come back with a good news for an app before the season … hope I was right. We all count on you.
Tks for your efforts on that direction.

Hi dear forumers

I think buy a carpuride, perhaps a 702 model
My phone is an iOs (iPhone 14 ProMax) and I have the Kurviger application on it.

Do you know if the Carpuride can display the application ?
In other way, is the application compatible with Carpuride products ?

Thanks for your help !

Android Auto already works on Carpuride, but for this you need Android Phone, not iPhone.

Hopefully we will be able to see CarPlay BETA support within a couple of weeks.

If you are considering a Carpuride purchase, check if some discounts are available currently. Things like this:
